Cracker tales come alive, so to speak, at the Ortona Cemetery, along SR 78 west of US 27 and east of US 29, a region surrounded by massive ranches. Here, Seminole chief Billy Bowlegs III (who was 104 when he died) was interred in 1965.

Saddles and cowboy boots decorate the resting places of the departed. A homemade headstone tells the story of a mother and children who died during the 1928 hurricane. Other interesting memorials are found on many of the headstones. This is the only interment site in Glades County.
