The City Marina in Moore HavenLocated on US 27, one of the major north-south connectors in the state, and designed to front on the Caloosahatchee River, the western half of the Intracoastal waterway which crosses Lake Okeechobee and connects the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, Moore Haven is almost equidistant from West Palm Beach and Fort Myers and within two hours of Miami and Orlando.

Our county seat, this city of 1,900 residents offers visiting boaters dockage, restroom and shower facilities, barbecue and picnic facilities and shopping and dining within walking distance of the waterfront. A new marina, with ship’s store, fuel, pump out facilities, and water taxi tours of the Caloosahatchee River and Lake Okeechobee will open in late 2009 as the first phase of planned downtown redevelopment.

Visitors to Moore Haven may choose to stay at the historic Rice Motel, which offers 12 motel rooms and serves a clientele largely of duck hunters and fishermen who return year after year to the motel. It is just south of the City’s marina. The boating enthusiast may prefer the Marina RV Resort which offers 151 sites, park model rental units, and dockage on Lake Okeechobee and boasts a pool, community center and showers.

Blue Trailer GrillMoore Haven has a variety of mom and pop eateries in addition to national chains. Located under the big bridge, the Moore Haven Restaurant features down-home Southern cooking for breakfast and lunch and is the favored dining spot among local officials. Recent additions to the Moore Haven “menu” include Antojitos Mexico Lindo featuring Mexican favorites, Joey’s Pizza and Subs and the Blue Trailer Grill, all within walking distance of the riverfront.  And if you’re looking for a place to wet your whistle, visit the Angler’s Lounge, the only full service bar in Glades County, with its cowboy mural celebrating its history as a favorite stopping point for cowboys during the annual Chalo Nitka Festival and Frontier Rodeo during the first week of March.
