Hunting in Glades County

PrintE-mail

Marshes along Lake Okeechobee's western shoreThanks to the extensive marshlands along the shallow west rim of Lake Okeechobee, Glades County is a popular destination for duck hunters during the winter months, when the migratory birds settle in.  Most head for Lakeport, where you’ll find hunters swapping stories at the Lakeport Lodge and the Duck Pub Restaurant.
In the uplands, our natural areas offer seasonal hunting of bigger game like wild hogs, white-tailed deer, and the clever Osceola turkey. Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area stretches for nearly 40 miles along the waterway, and is open for large and small game hunting, migratory game birds and turkey to be taken during the archery, muzzleloading gun, general gun and spring turkey seasons.

A private hunting preserve of 1,876 acres, Silver Lake Preserve in Muse offers a classic Old Florida hunting experience on lands carved out of the Lykes family ranch. Experience the hospitality of their early 1900s hunting lodge and guided hunts for northern bobwhite quail amid the palmetto prairies, wild boar in the pine thickets, and Florida wild turkey during season. Chappy’s Outfitters in Lakeport offers guided specialty hunt packages for Osceola turkey, wild boar, and other game.
