The most pristine waterway left in the state of Florida and the the only free-flowing tributary to Lake Okeechobee, lined with haunting bald cypress swamps and dense hardwood hammocks, the scenic quality of Fisheating Creek remains unmarred by houses and other human intrusions.
A ribbon of protected land runs for 18,272 acres along the waterway, providing habitat for Florida panthers, Florida black bears, swallow-tailed kites, whooping and sandhill cranes, crested caracara, and a number of other species native to the area.
This is a place to enjoy your favorite flavor of outdoor recreation. Paddle along the creek to savor the scenery and abundant wildlife. Come out in hunting season to track deer, feral hog, and Osceola turkey. Fish along the banks, spread out a picnic under the oaks, or camp at the popular Fisheating Creek Resort.
Access to Fisheating Creek WMA is at Lakeport, 8 miles north of Moore Haven on SR 78, at Banana Grove Road. Access is also available by water through Fisheating Creek Resort
