It’s 40 miles along the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail in Glades County if you’re up to the challenge, and it’s a challenge indeed as you ride above Indian Prairie between Buckhead Ridge and Lakeport.
The track is rugged limerock, but it yields to a 3.5-mile paved section of bike trail paralleling SR 78 through the Fisheating Creek floodplain. Back on the dike, you’ll experience another rugged stretch up to the Moore Haven Lock on the Caloosahatchee River. From Alvin Ward Park south to Liberty Point and onward to Clewiston, it’s speedy riding on asphalt.
Bicyclists are also welcome at Fort Center, where the 2-mile access trail to the interpretive loop is more enjoyable on a bicycle than on foot.
